Job summary

SMX is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team in support of a Modernized Data Science Platform for a Federal customer. The focus of this role is to bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions, focusing on requirements analysis, business process improvement, and data-driven decision-making to support the program's IT transformation and modernization activities.

Qualifications

• Security Clearance: U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret security clearance are required.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience: 6 years of related work experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Hands-on development with Python and PySpark (5+ years).
• Experience with Dev/Ops and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
• Army functional knowledge and requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation.
• Experience with cloud architectures (AWS/Azure).
• Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and independently.

Responsibilities

• Design new solutions using Databricks to deliver capabilities meeting business functional requirements.
• Analyze & Design modifications to existing data model solutions as needed.
• Define test cases and verify test results to ensure solutions are functioning as designed.
• Build data models and reports using datasets from ERPs and legacy systems.

Required Skills/Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on development experience and proficiency in Python and Pyspark.
• Experience with Dev/Ops and CI/CD pipelines using Gitlab.
• Army functional knowledge and proven experience in requirements elicitation, analysis, and documentation.
• Familiarity with database design and architecture; relational and non-relational
• Ability to work cross-functionally, and participate in discussions
• Knowledge of cloud architecture: commercial cloud vendors (AWS/Azure)
• Competence with software engineering tools and processes (estimation, issue tracking, version control, debugging, etc.)
• Proven ability to work independently on assigned tasks without any supervision.
• Proven experience in knowledge sharing (i.e., code reviews, solid documentation)
• Strong sense of mission and commitment to making a difference

Desired Skills/Experience

• Experience implementing RESTful APIs
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to foster positive outcomes from diverse interests of people and teams
• Experience working with the DoD
• Experience working with GFEBS or other SAP ERP system

The proposed salary for this position is:: $120,000 USD - $160,000 USD
