Dune is hiring a backend engineer focused on data systems and orchestration to own the data lifecycle from ingestion to curated models. This role emphasizes scalable design and reliable execution across thousands of interdependent datasets.

You will work in a remote-first team across Europe and the eastern US, with flexible hours, equity, and strong emphasis on data correctness and production safety.

Qualifications

• Experience building data systems at scale.
• Strong background in backend engineering for data platforms.
• Hands-on with data orchestration and scheduling.
• Experience handling schema evolution and data correctness.
• Ability to explain scale-related failures and fixes.

Responsibilities

• Design the control plane for curated data lifecycle and orchestrate backfills and retries.
• Decide per-dataset architecture (model, service, or job) and own its production runtime.
• Define contracts between ingestion and curation to reason about datasets end-to-end.
