Dune is hiring a backend engineer focused on data systems and orchestration to own the data lifecycle from ingestion to curated models. This role emphasizes scalable design and reliable execution across thousands of interdependent datasets.

You will work in a remote-first team across Europe and the eastern US, with flexible hours, equity, and strong emphasis on data correctness and production safety.

Job description

• Data Products builds and owns datasets end to end, from raw chain data through decoding to curated models and petabytes of data.
• Focus on the lifecycle of building high quality data, orchestrating thousands of interdependent models and propagating schema changes without breaking downstream consumers.

What You'll Do:

• Design and build the control plane for our curated data lifecycle, handling dependency-aware orchestration, backfills, restatements, retries, and partial failure recovery.
• Decide, dataset by dataset, whether the answer is a model, service, or job, and own that architecture through production.
• Design contracts between ingestion and curation so a dataset can be reasoned about end to end.

Who You Are:

• A backend engineer who has gone deep on data systems, or a data engineer who became a strong software engineer.
• You have built or materially extended orchestration and scheduling systems, and can explain what breaks at scale.
• You have handled schema evolution and data correctness in a system with real consumers downstream.
