Job summary

Dune is seeking a backend data engineer focused on building high-quality data products. You will own the lifecycle of datasets from decoding to model creation and will design robust contracts between ingestion and curation.

Qualifications

• You are a backend engineer who has gone deep on data systems and ships production services, not just pipelines.
• You have built or extended orchestration and scheduling systems and can explain scale-related breakages.
• You have handled schema evolution and data correctness with downstream consumers in production.
• You have built/stateful stream processing in production (Flink, Kafka Streams, Spark).
• You have strong SQL and data modeling skills on large datasets and understand how queries are executed.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the control plane for the curated data lifecycle, including backfills, restatements, retries, and recovery.
• Decide architecture per dataset and own its production lifecycle as a model, service, or job.
• Design contracts between ingestion and curation for end-to-end data reasoning.
• Build data quality signals and alerting to reduce noise during on-call incidents.
• Work across Go, Kotlin, Rust, Python, and SQL to choose the right tool for the job.
• Break large problems into smaller work packages and ship useful features early.
