Job summary

ICES: Data, Discovery, Better Health seeks an Experienced Data Center Technician to maintain uptime and provide advanced hands-on support for servers, switches, storage, and infrastructure in Dallas. You will troubleshoot complex incidents, perform safe changes, and mentor junior technicians.

Ideal candidates have 3–7+ years in data center operations and familiarity with AWS, Google, or Meta environments. On-site, shift work may be required with adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Typically 3-7+ years of data center operations experience.
  • Technical education in IT/networking/electronics (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience with at least one common data center environment or platform stack (servers/network/storage).

Responsibilities

  • Respond to incidents involving servers, switches, storage, cabling, PDUs, alarms; identify root cause and resolve.
  • Perform break/fix and migrations: rack-and-stack, hardware replacements, firmware verification.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance following runbooks and change procedures with escalation to engineering as needed.
  • Support datacenter infrastructure operations including power distribution awareness, UPS/generator checks, airflow monitoring.
  • Install and test network connectivity; verify VLAN/port configurations.
  • Own physical layer documentation: cable maps, rack diagrams, asset records, and post-change updates.
  • Manage work orders and changes in ticketing system with approvals and rollbacks.
  • Maintain compliance and safety: ESD, ladder safety, access control.
  • Coordinate with vendors and cross-functional teams during outages.
  • Mentor junior technicians through shadowing and coaching.

Job description

An Experienced Data Center Technician is responsible for day-to-day data center operations and advanced hands-on technical support. The role focuses on maintaining uptime for server, network, storage, and data center infrastructure while performing complex troubleshooting, executing changes safely, and mentoring other technicians.

Previous AWS, Google, or Meta experience highly desired

Key responsibilities
  • Respond to and troubleshoot incidents involving servers, switches, storage systems, cabling, PDUs, cooling components, and alarms; identify root cause and drive resolution.
  • Perform advanced break/fix and migrations: rack-and-stack, hardware replacements, firmware verification, and structured cabling changes.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance following runbooks and change procedures (including escalation to engineering when needed).
  • Support datacenter infrastructure operations including power distribution awareness, UPS/generator-related operational checks (as applicable), airflow best practices, and cooling/CRAH-CRAC monitoring response.
  • Install and test network connectivity (patch panels, patch cords, optics/SFPs, VLAN/port verification as applicable).
  • Own physicallayer documentation quality: cable maps, labeling standards, rack diagrams, asset records, and post-change updates.
  • Manage workorders and changes in a ticketing/change system, ensuring approvals, sequencing, and rollbacks are followed.
  • Maintain compliance and safety: ESD procedures, ladder/working-at-height safety, access control, and adherence to data center standards.
  • Coordinate with vendors and cross-functional teams (network engineering, platform teams, facilities, and support) during outages and escalations.
  • Mentor junior technicians through shadowing, coaching on procedures, and improving team playbooks/runbooks.
Required skills
  • Strong experience with serverhardwarelifecycle (install, replace, troubleshoot) and understanding of RAID/storage basics.
  • Solid working knowledge of networkingfundamentals (switching concepts, fiber/optics basics, cabling standards, port verification).
  • Hands‑on ability with structuredcabling (copper and fiber), patching, labeling, and rack organization.
  • Proficiency using ticketing/ITSMsystems, monitoring tools, and escalation workflows.
  • Competence reading diagrams,schematics,andrunbooks, and producing clear documentation after work.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a high-availability,safety-firstenvironment with controlled change processes.
  • Ability to lift and work in constrained spaces (often required for rack work and component swaps).
Qualifications (common)
  • Typically 3-7+ years of data center operations/technician experience (or equivalent hands‑on work).
  • Technical education in IT/networking/electronics (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience with at least one common data center environment or platform stack (servers/network/storage) is preferred.
Preferred (nice-to-have)
  • Certifications such as CompTIAA+/Network+, Cisco(CCNA), ITIL, or vendor-specific hardware certifications.
  • Experience with on-call rotation, outage response, and incident command principles.
  • Knowledge of datacenter infrastructure monitoring (BMS alarms, environmental monitoring, power/cooling telemetry-role dependent).
Work conditions
  • On-site work in a temperature-controlled environment.
  • Shiftworkandon-call may be required.
  • Ability to work under time constraints during incidents and scheduled maintenance windows.
