Primary Services is actively recruiting for a Data Center Operations Technician on behalf of a large, established client with a significant data center footprint. This role supports a mission-critical environment where operational excellence, reliability, and safety are paramount. The position offers hands‑on ownership of daily facility operations while working closely with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders across multiple locations.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily facility walkthroughs to verify HVAC, power systems, alarms, security, and environmental conditions.
- Monitor airflow, hot and cold aisle alignment, temperature, humidity, and UPS status.
- Identify operational issues and coordinate vendor repairs, including quotes and approval workflows.
- Serve as the primary on‑call emergency contact for power, HVAC, and environmental failures.
- Prepare and install new customer cabinets, including cleaning, labeling, power validation, and network readiness.
- Run fiber and copper cross‑connects and support customer equipment installations.
- Conduct data center tours for prospective customers in coordination with Sales.
- Administer access control, including badges, logs, and contractor audits.
- Maintain physical security systems such as lighting, cameras, and locks.
- Audit customer cabinets, cross‑connects, power usage, and supporting infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate diagrams, inventories, and site documentation aligned with physical assets.
- Produce maintenance recommendations for company equipment located in third‑party facilities.
- Develop preventative maintenance plans and act as a subject matter expert across partner data centers.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years of hands‑on experience in data center operations, facilities support, or critical infrastructure environments.
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, hot/cold aisle design, power distribution, and UPS fundamentals.
- Experience performing physical installation work using ladders, tools, and cabling.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required.
- Availability to respond to after‑hours emergencies as part of on‑call responsibilities.
- Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record; company vehicle provided.
- Experience with fiber and copper cross‑connect installation preferred.
- Familiarity with DC power plants or environmental monitoring systems preferred.
