Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a contracting data center technician to support Portland, OR, with hands-on server troubleshooting, rack/stack, and hardware configuration. The role requires physical work in a data center, including wiring, cabling, and coordinating with network admins to resolve server issues.

Ideal candidates will have Linux-based troubleshooting experience, BIOS/firmware tasks, and a willingness to work a rotating schedule that may include weekends and 4x10 shifts.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot servers and isolate issues across multiple devices.
• Rack/stack and configure servers and DC gear.
• Perform firmware updates and BIOS configuration on hardware.
• Assist network admins with cables, ports, and optics as needed.
• Ship defective parts back to vendors and order replacements.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting rather than purely remote support.

Job description

Job Duties:

• Troubleshoot a variety of servers and isolate the problem that the server is encountering.
• Order replacement parts and install them in servers and ship back the defective part to their respective vendors.
• Update firmware on servers to ensure the latest version is installed.
• Configure IP addresses and default login credentials on servers.
• Reach out and assist network admins on any issues they are having with a server that can range from: replacing broken or damaged cables, re-routing cables to different ports on the server or switch, replacing optics on both server and switch ports, changing out parts and installing upgraded versions of those parts in servers.
• Temporarily rack and stack a server or switch in a cabinet and cable it so the network admin can remotely log in and run configurations on device.
• Assist network admins who reach out requesting specific assistance with servers or switch.

Qualifications:

• Must have 2-3+ years of data center technician experience
• Must be open to working M-F either day or swing shift to start, but potentially moving to 4x10s shifts including a weekend day
• Rack/Stack and configuration of servers and other DC gear
• Hands on wiring/cabling fiber optics
• Break/Fix and doing the actual troubleshooting, not just being remote hands (smart hands exp)
• End of row infrastructure exp and network patching
• Linux based troubleshooting is required
• BIOS Configuration and Firmware
• Liquid cooling experience is a plus but not required

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $37.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
