Job Description

This role supports a large nationwide cabling initiative for a major data center client, focusing on upgrading legacy coax infrastructure to modern fiber solutions. You will work as part of a specialized Level 2 tiger team of data center technicians that travels to new sites, establishes processes and procedures, and ensures projects start correctly and run smoothly. The position requires extensive travel to data centers across the United States, with most work performed on‑site at client facilities and some work completed in your home market data center during project downtime.

Responsibilities
  • Travel nationwide to data center sites, spending up to approximately two weeks on the road at a time before returning home, in order to support a large‑scale cabling and infrastructure upgrade initiative.
  • Serve as part of a Level 2 data center technician tiger team responsible for being the first technical group on new project sites and setting up initial processes, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support the transition of older coax cabling to fiber by performing cable replacement activities in a structured data center environment.
  • Pull, route, and terminate cabling, including coax and fiber, in accordance with data center standards and project specifications.
  • Perform hands‑on troubleshooting of data center cabling and related infrastructure to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Configure, test, and validate cable installations to ensure proper performance, connectivity, and reliability for production environments.
  • Collaborate with on‑site staff and future Level 1 cable technicians to ensure a smooth handoff of work once initial project phases are complete.
  • Document work performed, including cabling routes, terminations, and any issues encountered, to maintain accurate records and support ongoing operations.
  • Adhere to established data center processes, safety procedures, and security protocols while working in live production environments.
  • Work at your home market data center during periods between nationwide projects, continuing to support cabling and infrastructure tasks as needed.
  • Communicate clearly with project leads and team members regarding status, issues, and requirements to keep projects on track and aligned with client expectations.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience working as a data center technician in a live data center environment.
  • Hands‑on experience pulling and terminating cabling in structured cabling or data center projects.
  • Practical experience working with both coax and fiber cabling, including replacement and upgrade activities.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to data center cabling and connectivity issues.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively nationwide, with the flexibility to be on the road for up to approximately two weeks at a time.
  • Capability to work independently on‑site and step into projects from day one with minimal supervision.
  • Comfort working in a process‑driven environment and following established procedures and standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality when performing cable installations and terminations.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members, on‑site personnel, and project stakeholders.

Work Environment

You will work primarily in a professional data center environment that emphasizes reliability, security, and adherence to strict operational standards. The role involves approximately 75% nationwide travel and 25% work in your home market data center, with trips typically lasting up to about two weeks before you return home. Travel arrangements are coordinated for you, and out‑of‑pocket travel expenses are reimbursed, providing structure and support while you work on the road. On‑site, you will operate around live production systems, cabling infrastructure, and related equipment, following established processes and safety protocols. The work is hands‑on and physically active, involving tasks such as pulling, routing, and terminating coax and fiber cabling within racks, pathways, and structured cabling systems. You can expect a professional, process‑oriented setting with a focus on precision, organization, and compliance with data center standards.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
