Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Data Center Safety Engineer (Automation) in the Memphis area to lead electrical safety programs for high-density infrastructure and AI compute facilities. You will drive arc-flash analysis, LOTO, grounding, and safety-critical testing while coordinating with teams to ensure safe rapid scaling of power and cooling systems.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in electrical/electronic system safety, risk assessments, and experience with FMEA/HAZOP.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial/systems engineering, chemical engineering, fire protection engineering, or related field.
Experience with electrical safety programs and power systems in data centers or critical facilities is preferred.
Experience with FMEA/HAZOP and safety compliance standards is valued.

Responsibilities

Oversee electrical safety programs including arc-flash analysis, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe work practices on UPS, PDUs, switchgear, and generators.
Conduct risk assessments of power systems, cooling infrastructure, fire/smoke, energy storage, and human factors.
Perform FMEA, HAZOP studies, and other structured risk assessments for critical systems.
Ensure grounding, bonding, and power quality monitoring/telemetry to prevent equipment damage and injury.
Validate ATS and generator failover procedures from a safety perspective.
Monitor cooling systems, thermal safety, and energy storage safety.
Develop emergency response plans for power loss, cooling failure, and critical incidents.
Ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA, IEC, ISO 45001 and related codes.
