Job summary

SpaceX in Memphis, TN is seeking a DATA CENTER SAFETY ENGINEER (ELECTRICAL) to establish robust electrical safety controls for expanding AI infrastructure and supercomputing facilities. You will oversee arc-flash analysis, LOTO, grounding, and safe operation across UPS, PDUs, switchgear, generators, and cooling systems.

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in electrical system design, thermodynamics, energy storage, and risk assessments (FMEA/HAZOP).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial/systems engineering, chemical engineering, fire protection engineering, or related field.
Experience with PLCs, IoT device administration, and scripting for automation or data analysis is preferred.
PFMEA, root cause analysis, SPC, and structured problem-solving methodologies are expected.
CAEs/CFD tools such as Ansys are advantageous.
PE license and related certifications (CSP, CEM, NFPA) are a plus.

Responsibilities

Oversee electrical safety programs including arc-flash analysis, LOTO, and safe work practices on UPS, PDUs, switchgear, and generators.
Conduct risk assessments of power systems, cooling infrastructure, fire/smoke, energy storage, and human factors.
Perform FMEA/HAZOP and other risk assessments for critical systems.
Ensure grounding, bonding, and power quality monitoring to prevent damage and injuries.
Validate ATS and generator failover procedures from a safety perspective.
Monitor cooling failures, hot spots, thermal runaway, and extreme conditions.
Develop emergency response plans for power loss, cooling failure, fire, and water events.
