Job summary

McKinstry seeks a Preconstruction Manager to join the Data Center Innovations team in Portland, OR. You will lead preconstruction and manage conceptual budgets for major mechanical systems, coordinating with Project Managers to ensure seamless handoffs and cost control throughout design and estimating phases.

Role requires 5–7 years in project management or construction, a technical degree, and proficiency with scheduling tools. OSHA 10 and a strong client-facing posture are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in CM/engineering.
• 5–7 years in project management, engineering, or construction.
• Proficient in scheduling software: MS Project, Primavera, SureTrak.
• OSHA 10 required.
• Experience with data center projects preferred.
• Basic estimating skills required.
• CPM/PE/LEED designations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction management across mechanical systems.
• Own conceptual estimates for major new construction projects.
• Manage scope and budget before construction begins.
• Coordinate with design, risk, and budget during design/estimation.
• Oversee design phase, budgets, and risk management.
• Ensure smooth transition from preconstruction to construction.
• Support sales with conceptual budgets and scope letters.
• Prepare change orders and subcontracts; draft RFPs.
