Job summary

Google LLC in Kansas, USA, is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to serve as the Metro Lead for on-site mechanical and HVAC systems. You will ensure cooling infrastructures meet design intent, coordinate with contractors, and drive field execution with a focus on reliability and efficiency.

As the primary on-site authority, you will bridge high-level thermal designs with site implementation, perform site walks, and support RFI processes to resolve issues quickly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with thermal topology, including evaporative cooling (cooling towers, adiabatic systems) and non-evaporative cooling (air-cooled chillers, CRAHs, dry coolers, closed-loop liquid cooling).
• 5 years of experience with piping and fluid dynamics, including chilled water plant overviews, pumping systems, and hydronic balancing.
• 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering.

Responsibilities

• Act as definitive resource for mechanical contractors and Engineers of Record, supporting mechanical system design and resolving ambiguities to maintain construction momentum.
• Perform periodic site walk-throughs to verify installations align with specifications, focusing on pressure testing, weld inspection, insulation integrity, and equipment placement.
• Ensure evaporative and non-evaporative cooling systems meet Google and project standards while managing overall site thermal performance.
• Lead field-side RFI process to resolve spatial or mechanical conflicts and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address design changes during construction.
