Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking an experienced Data Center Infrastructure Engineer to design and optimize both physical and cloud-hosted data center environments. You will analyze requirements, set technical standards, and collaborate with partners to ensure scalable, secure infrastructure.

The role emphasizes independent design and ongoing optimization across network, compute, storage, platform, middleware, and telephony systems in a hybrid-flex environment with Durham-area flexibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in related field; in lieu of degree, 7+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and develop complex engineering designs for network, compute, telephony, platform, middleware and databases.
• Own and maintain technology currency and capacity planning in support of SLAs.
• Define hardware and software performance standards.
• Provide expertise on emerging technologies with vendors.
• Participate in licensing, financial and capacity activities for efficient datacenter tech deployment.
• Provide ongoing consultation to IT and business areas affected by data center infrastructures.
• Lead detailed infrastructure design of large internal projects with IT stakeholders and partners.
• Ensure operational readiness through planning, coordination, and execution of performance and tuning activities.
• Provide guidance during production incidents and solutioning.
• Maintain standardized guidelines and procedures for data center engineering workflows.
• Collaborate with architecture community to maintain roadmaps and standards.
• Coordinate with vendors on infrastructure designs to match architected solutions.
• Deliver technology overviews to IT and Enterprise leadership.
• Mentor less experienced team members.
