Job summary

NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our CMT & Special Inspections team in Kennesaw, Georgia. This position focuses on field inspections of structural steel fabrication and welding to ensure compliance with AWS, ICC, and project specifications.

You will review procedures, collaborate with engineers and project managers, and maintain certification requirements while working outdoors at diverse sites across the Southeast.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; engineering/construction management education preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in structural steel, welding, or special inspections.
• AWS CWI or ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector or ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector certification.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and IBC special inspection requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors at active construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural steel and welding inspections per AWS, ICC, and project specifications.
• Inspect welded and bolted structural steel connections.
• Observe shop and field fabrication for compliance with approved documents.
• Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, material certifications, and inspection reports.
• Document inspection findings and prepare detailed field reports using electronic systems.
• Communicate inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions with stakeholders.
• Perform visual inspections of structural steel framing and welds.
• Coordinate with NOVA engineers, project managers and clients to support QA objectives.
• Maintain certification requirements and stay current with codes and inspection methodologies.
• Adhere to NOVA’s safety policies during field assignments.
