Job summary

Advocate Health’s CVOR at Carolinas Medical Center seeks an experienced Surgical Technologist to support cardiac, vascular, and thoracic cases. You will assist with aseptic technique, prep of patient and instruments, and ensure room readiness for complex surgeries.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification, and OR experience; graduation from an accredited surgical technology program is expected. Certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of operating room experience as a surgical technologist.
• Current NBSTSA or NCCT certification preferred.
• Meets ST II qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder.

Responsibilities

• Possesses thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
• Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments before, during and after procedures.
• Assists RN circulator in patient prep, assembly of supplies and specimens; supports room turnover.
• Performs duties per department policy and ensures proper documentation of charges.
• Monitors sterilization activities and maintains sterility of supplies.
• Attends in-services and participates in Performance Improvement processes.
• Engages in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet goals.
• Contributes to development of policies, procedures, and standards.
• May serve as a preceptor and clinical resource to others.
