Company Overview

Position Overview

The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing and filing accurate import entries with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This role sits at the center of the brokerage operation, ensuring shipments clear efficiently and in full compliance with trade regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and confident handling a high volume of entries across multiple modes of transport.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and transmit import entries (including consumption, warehouse, and in-bond entries) through ACE using CargoWise or comparable brokerage software
• Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and other shipping documents for accuracy and completeness
• Classify merchandise under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and verify duty rates, valuation, and country of origin
• Apply appropriate trade programs and duty-saving provisions (e.g., FTAs, Chapter 98, Section 301/232 requirements)
• Identify and comply with Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements such as FDA, USDA, EPA, and CPSC, and file the required data
• Submit ISF filings and monitor timelines to avoid penalties
• Coordinate with customer service, operations, and carriers to obtain missing documentation and resolve discrepancies
• Track entry status, respond to CBP notices (CF-28/CF-29), and assist with corrections, PSCs, and post-entry amendments
• Monitor releases and holds, communicating exam or delay information to internal teams and clients promptly
• Maintain accurate records in line with CBP recordkeeping requirements
• Stay current on tariff changes, trade regulations, and CBP guidance

Key Skills & Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience as a customs entry writer or in a similar customs brokerage role
• Strong working knowledge of HTS classification, valuation, and U.S. import regulations
• Hands-on experience with ACE and a brokerage/forwarding system (CargoWise preferred)
• Familiarity with ISF, Incoterms, and PGA filing requirements
• Experience with ocean, air, and/or truck imports
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners
• Customs Broker License (LCB) or progress toward it is a plus
• Bachelor's degree preferred but not required; relevant experience will be considered
