Job summary

Altius Talent | Freight Forwarding Recruitment is seeking a detail-oriented Customs Entry Writer to join our Miami, FL team on-site. You will process daily U.S. customs entries, ensure CBP compliance, and manage PGA clearances as part of a busy logistics brokerage.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in entry writing, strong HTS classification skills, and hands-on experience with ABI/ACE transmission, CargoWise or Magaya. Fluent English is required; Spanish is a plus in South Florida.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3-5 years of active entry writing experience within a U.S. Customs Brokerage or 3PL freight forwarder.
• Deep understanding of CBP regulations, 19 CFR guidelines, PGA requirements (specifically FDA), and import compliance protocols.
• Hands-on experience with customs brokerage software modules (CargoWise or Magaya strongly preferred) and direct ACE/ABI transmission.
• High analytical ability, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Professional fluency in English; bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a strong plus in the South Florida market.
• High School Diploma or GED; CCS or active LCB status is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and transmit formal (7501) and informal customs entries, ISF / 10+2, and remote location filings (RLF) accurately and in a timely manner.
• Review HTS codes, duty rates, and Section 301 tariffs.
• Coordinate and manage clearances with PGA/OGAs, including FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT, and FCC.
• Monitor shipment release status, liaise with CBP officers, ports, and CFS stations to resolve holds, exams, or documentation discrepancies.
• Calculate and verify applicable duties, taxes, and fees; process client invoices and manage duty billing according to company standards.
• Act as a key contact for importers, overseas agents, and freight forwarders regarding shipment status, compliance requirements, and clearance delays.

Customs Entry Writer / Customs Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Customs Entry Writer to join an established logistics and customs brokerage team in Miami, FL. The primary responsibility of this role is to process daily U.S. Customs entries, ensure full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, and handle Partner Government Agency (PGA) clearances.

The ideal candidate possesses strong HTS classification skills, hands-on experience transmitting via ABI/ACE, and a thorough understanding of import compliance procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Customs Entry Processing: Prepare, review, and transmit formal (7501) and informal customs entries, Importer Security Filings (ISF / 10+2), and remote location filings (RLF) accurately and in a timely manner.
• Tariff Classification: Review commercial invoices, packing lists, and shipping documents to determine accurate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes, duty rates, and applicable Section 301 tariffs.
• PGA / OGA Clearance: Coordinate and manage clearances with Partner Government Agencies, including FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT, and FCC.
• Customs & Holds Management: Monitor shipment release status, liaise with CBP officers, ports, and CFS stations to resolve customs holds, exams, or documentation discrepancies.
• Billing & Duty Settlement: Calculate and verify applicable duties, taxes, and fees; process client invoices and manage duty billing according to company standards.
