Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a Customer Service Representative 1 to handle inbound calls, schedule appointments, and provide information to the public and internal customers. Staff may be called to participate in emergency-related duties, such as staffing shelters or POD/SPOC sites, during emergencies.

Under direct supervision, performs customer service tasks, adheres to HIPAA guidelines, and supports program initiatives while maintaining confidentiality and strong

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with six months of related experience handling customers’ questions, complaints and/or providing information.
  • Experience handling customers’ questions, complaints and/or providing information.
  • Bilingual – Spanish speaking (preferred)
  • Public Health experience (preferred)
  • Computer experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry, etc.)
  • Excellent customer service and oral communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of departmental personnel and outside customers

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality customer service to all customers
  • Answers inbound calls in a timely manner
  • Makes appointments; follows up with missed appointments by calling clients to reschedule
  • Follows communication “scripts” when scheduling the appropriate appointments
  • Identifies customers’ needs, clarifies information, provides solutions, and refers programs/resources
  • Handles all client inquiries
  • Enters new client information into the system
  • Updates existing client information
  • Supports new program initiatives
  • Adapts to changing policy and procedures
  • Abides by strict confidentiality requirements and all HIPAA guidelines
  • Is an active listener with strong phone and verbal communication skills
  • Is detail‑oriented, able to work efficiently and independently
  • Self‑starter in a fast‑paced work environment; can multi‑task, set priorities and manage time effectively
  • Is organized
  • Assists with community‑wide events
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

Description

Under direct supervision, works and communicates with the general public, internal customers and/or external customers to provide information and services targeted to meet customer expectations. All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called to participate in events such as staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Distribution site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected to fulfill that requirement, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED AND six months of related experience handling customers’ questions, complaints and/or providing information.

  • Public Health experience
  • Bilingual – Spanish speaking
