  • Provide admin support to Accounting, IT, and Personnel as needed.
  • Back up Admin Assistant for the Executive Leadership Team and other duties.
  • Proficient in MS Office; manage calendars, travel requests, and virtual meetings.

As an Administrative Assistant within the West Central Health District at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Responsibilities

This position will be housed in Columbus and will provide direct support to the District Program Manager with administrative duties and public health programs including Environmental Health, Emergency Preparedness, WIC and Nutrition services, Epidemiology, Adolescent Health & Youth Development, health education, substance use prevention, injury control, and chronic disease prevention. You will support the department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Review all forms/documents for accuracy prior to submitting to the District Program Manager for approval.
  • Assist with the development of MOU’s, MOA’s and contracts for the 16-county health departments.
  • Serve as a liaison between the state, district and county level staff and community partners.
  • Provide administrative support to Accounting, IT, and Personnel departments, as needed.
  • Serve as a backup for the Admin Assistant for the Executive Leadership Team and any other duties assigned.
  • Will require intermediate skills in Microsoft office products and applications for data entry and tracking, calendar and meeting management, virtual conferencing platforms, composing and distributing correspondences, handle travel and leave requests.
Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED and three (3) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Admin Assistant 1 (GST050) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferred. General administrative/office experience. Computer experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry, etc.). Must demonstrate excellent customer service and oral communication skills, to effectively interact with all levels of departmental personnel and outside customers. Work requires ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously.

Additional Information

All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to: staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

The DPH Commissioner and agency leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being.

The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
