Qualifications

• No education or experience required; Hy-Vee provides training.
• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with concrete variables.
• Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide prompt, friendly service.
• Operate the cash register and process payments (cash, checks, cards, coupons, WIC, rain checks, in-store charges, lottery).
• Count back change and issue receipts or credits for returns as needed.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines on tobacco, liquor, WIC, and food stamps.
• Assist customers and stock shelves; support drive-up and carry-out service.
• Stay knowledgeable on item lookup numbers, department numbers, and weekly ad items.
• Keep the register area clean and report cash discrepancies.
• Communicate clearly via intercom or phone and escalate questions as needed.
• Maintain store safety and assist with promotions and events.
