Job summary

OU Health seeks a Care Team Associate to support the Cardiovascular Unit under RN supervision. The role involves routine patient care, vital signs monitoring, specimen collection and assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers.

A positive, communicative team player with basic nursing skills is sought for a PRN position within OU Health. Education requires a high school diploma or GED, and current Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patient's health status continually and implement the care plan under RN supervision.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders within scope.
  • Record vital signs (BP, temperature, pulse, weight) and monitor blood glucose.
  • Set up and discontinue telemetry, collect specimens and perform sterile procedures as directed.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges and transfers and transport patients as needed.

CTA - Care Team Associate - PRN
Department

Cardiovascular Unit

Under general supervision of a registered nurse, performs routine tasks in patient care.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient's health status and implements the plan of care.
  • Carries out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope.
  • Takes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients.
  • Performs blood glucose monitoring.
  • Sets up and discontinues telemetry monitor.
  • Collects specimens as directed.
  • Applies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains. Performs all sterile procedures as assigned.
  • Performs stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches.
  • Performs oral suctioning.
  • Takes emergency action as needed and within scope.
  • Performs all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.
  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient's condition or behavior to RN.
  • Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process.
  • Transports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Keeps the patient's room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen.
  • Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.
  • When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone.
General Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
Experience Requirements
  • No experience required.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

  • Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with others.
