Job summary

OU Health in Oklahoma City seeks a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) / Patient Care Technician (PCTC) to join the clinical team. You will assist with monitoring patient health, perform routine nursing tasks, and support admissions, discharges, and transfers under RN supervision.

The role requires an HS Diploma or GED and current BLS certification. CPCT/PCTC or AUA credentials are required; no prior experience is necessary.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED is required.
  • No prior experience required for the role.
  • BLS certification is required (American Heart Association).
  • CPCT, PCTC, or AUA credential required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patient health status and implement care plan under supervision.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Record vital signs and collect specimens as directed.
  • Perform sterile procedures and dressings.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Transport patients as needed and maintain clean patient rooms.
  • Precept new CTAs when assigned.
  • Report changes in patient condition to RN.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient's health status and implements the plan of care.
  • Carrying out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope.
  • Takes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients.
  • Performs blood glucose monitoring.
  • Sets up and discontinues telemetry monitor.
  • Collects specimens as directed.
  • Applies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains. Performs all sterile procedures as assigned.
  • Performs stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches.
  • Performs oral suctioning.
  • Takes emergency actions as needed and within scope.
  • Performs all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.
  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient's condition or behavior to RN.
  • Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process.
  • Transports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Keeps the patient's room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen.
  • Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.
  • When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone.
  • May precept new CTAs.
General Responsibilities

Education Requirements
  • HS Diploma or GED required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required.
  • Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) OR Patient Care Technician (PCTC) OR Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with others.
