Job summary

OU Health is seeking a CTA Cardiovascular for overnight shifts in the Cardiovascular Unit. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will perform routine patient care tasks and monitor patient status as part of the care team. Education requires a HS Diploma or GED and current BLS certification.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) OR Patient Care Technician (PCTC) OR Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient health status and implement the care plan under RN guidance.
• Carry out physician and nursing orders within scope.
• Record blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, and weight.
• Perform blood glucose monitoring.
• Set up and discontinue telemetry monitoring.
• Collect specimens as directed.
• Apply sterile dressings and remove sutures, staples, or drains.
• Perform stomal irrigation and colostomy care.
• Perform oral suctioning.
• Respond to emergencies as needed.
• Report changes to RN.
• Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer.
• Transport patients as needed.
• Keep the patient room clean and orderly; change linens.
• Restock rooms with supplies.
• May precept new CTAs.

Job Description:

Under general supervision of a regi stered nurse, performs routine tasks in patient care.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

• Under general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient's health status and implements the plan of care.
• Carries out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope.
• Takes/records blood pressures , temperatures , pulse and weighs patients.
• Performs blood glucose monitoring.
• Sets up and discontinues telemetry monitor .
• Collects specimens as directed.
• Applies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains. Performs all sterile procedures as assigned.
• Performs stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches.
• Performs oral suctioning.
• Takes emergency actions as needed and within scope.
• Performs all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.
• Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient's condition or behavior to RN.
• Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process.
• Transports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
• Keeps the patient's room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen.
• Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.
• When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone.
• May precept new CTAs.
