Job summary

OU Health in Edmond is seeking a Care Team Associate to support patient care on the Med/Surg floors. Under supervision of a registered nurse, you perform routine nursing tasks and monitor patients’ status, following orders and keeping patients comfortable.

This full-time day shift role requires a high school diploma or GED and current BLS certification. You will gain hands-on experience in vital signs, specimen collection, and assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • No experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patient health status and implement the plan of care under RN supervision.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN within scope.
  • Take/record blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weights.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring.
  • Set up and discontinue telemetry monitoring.
  • Collect specimens as directed.
  • Apply sterile dressings and perform sterile procedures as assigned.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Transport patients as needed and assist with movement of patients in wheelchairs.
  • Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms and restock supplies.

Position Title:

Care Team Associate - Full Time, Days - Edmond

Department:

Med/Surg 3rd/4th Floor

Job Description:

Under general supervision of a registered nurse, performs routine tasks in patient care.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient's health status and implements the plan of care.

  • Carries out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope.

  • Takes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients.

  • Performs blood glucose monitoring.

  • Sets up and discontinues telemetry monitor.

  • Collects specimens as directed.

  • Applies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains. Performs all sterile procedures as assigned.

  • Performs stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches.

  • Performs oral suctioning.

  • Takes emergency action as needed and within scope.

  • Performs all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.

  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient's condition or behavior to RN.

  • Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process.

  • Transports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.

  • Keeps the patient's room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen.

  • Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.

  • When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone.

General Responsibilities

  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relations with others.
