Job summary

OU Health in Oklahoma City is seeking a CSA - Clinical Support Assistant for the Pediatric Specialty Unit. Under supervision of a registered nurse, you will perform routine patient care tasks and support the care team.

You will monitor vital signs, record measurements, assist with admissions and transports, and help with sterile procedures. This role requires a HS Diploma/GED and BLS certification; no prior experience is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient health status and implement the plan of care under RN supervision.
• Carry out physician and nursing orders within scope.
• Take and record blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, and weights.
• Perform blood glucose monitoring.
• Set up telemetry monitor and discontinue as directed.
• Collect specimens as directed.
• Apply sterile dressings, remove sutures/staples/drains and perform sterile procedures as assigned.
• Perform stomal irrigation and apply colostomy pouches.
• Perform oral suctioning.
• Take emergency actions as needed within scope.
• Perform treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.
• Report symptoms and significant changes to the RN.
• Assist with admissions, discharges and transfers.
• Transport patients to treatment centers as needed and assist with movement.
• Keep patient rooms clean and stocked.
• When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provide care and do not leave the patient alone.
• May precept new CTAs.

Under general supervision of a registered nurse, performs routine tasks in patient care.

Essential Responsibilities

• Under general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient’s health status and implements the plan of care.
• Carries out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope.
• Takes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients.
• Performs blood glucose monitoring.
• Sets up and discontinues telemetry monitor.
• Collects specimens as directed.
• Applies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains. Performs all sterile procedures as assigned.
• Performs stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches.
• Performs oral suctioning.
• Takes emergency actions as needed and within scope.
• Performs all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist.
• Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition or behavior to RN.
• Assists with admission, discharge and transfer process.
• Transports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
• Keeps the patient’s room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen.
• Assists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.
• When assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone.
• May precept new CTAs.

General Responsibilities

Education Requirements

HS Diploma or GED required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required. Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) OR Patient Care Technician (PCTC) OR Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) required.
