Job summary

Mercyhealth seeks a CT technologist to perform diagnostic CT imaging, administer contrast, and ensure patient safety across 12-hour shifts in Rockford, IL. The role supports radiologists and healthcare teams with high-quality imaging and documentation in the EMR.

The ideal candidate has an accredited radiography background and 1–3 years CT experience; trainees are considered. Includes a sign-on bonus and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • 1–3 years CT technologist experience preferred; trainees/new grads considered.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic CT procedures and techniques.
  • Administers contrast media as required.
  • Reviews clinical history to ensure correct scan and lab range.
  • Provides patient education and student instruction.
  • Initiates basic life support when needed.
  • Operates CT scanner and power injector to obtain cross-section images.
  • Documents CT procedure details in EMR and reconciles medications.
  • Follows ALARA principles and uses PACS for image sharing.

OVERVIEWPerforms advanced Computed Tomography (CT) imaging procedures by operating CT equipment, administering contrast media, maintaining patient safety, and producing high-quality diagnostic images in accordance with established protocols. Provides compassionate patient care, education, and support while collaborating with radiologists and healthcare teams, documenting procedures accurately, and ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality practices, and regulatory requirements.Schedule: Three, 12-hour shiftsShift: Midshift start timesEligible for a sign-on bonus!ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms diagnostic Computed Tomography procedures and techniques.Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed.Reviews patients’ clinical history ensuring that appropriate scan is ordered, and labs are within range- reviewing with radiologist and/or provider as necessary.Provides patient education.Provides practical instruction for students and partners.Initiates basic life support action when necessary.Starts and maintains intravenous access, may include power injectable implanted ports and specialized linesApplies principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.Operates CT scanner and power injector to produce cross section images of patient anatomy for diagnostic purposesAdministers contrast media orally and intravenous maintaining aseptic technique.Documents all information pertinent to CT procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliation.Ensures patients receive discharge information regarding exam to include patient letter and information.Flex to various shifts needed to support the department, may be required to flex up hours as needed to include weekends holidays and callAssist radiologist with interventional procedures as neededReports and documents CT safety incidents/ adverse events per protocol.Assist with medical record/image sharing as necessaryFollows ALARA principles through accurate scan techniques and parametersUtilizes associated workstation to produce post process imaging and 3D reconstructions as required per protocolAdjust scan protocols/parameters as necessary for individual patient needUses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited radiography programMinimum One (1) to Three (3) years of experience as a CT technologist preferredWill consider trainees and new graduatesCERTIFICATION/LICENSUREARRT Radiography registration requiredARRT Computed Tomography registration required within 2 years of hireIEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in IllinoisWI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in WisconsinApproved CPR or BLS certification within 90 daysOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESProblem Solving- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.Interpersonal Skills- Focuses on solving conflict, not blaming; Maintains confidentiality; Listens to others without interrupting; Keeps emotions under control; Remains open to others’ ideas and tries new things.Oral Communication- Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Participates in meetings.Written Communication- Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar; Able to read and interpret written information.Professionalism- Approaches other in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; Accepts responsibility for own actions; Follows through on commitments.Adaptability- Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.LEVEL OF SUPERVISIONWorks independently with limited direct supervision.SUPERVISESProvides clinical supervision of allied health students and radiology aides.PAY RANGE:$33.78 - $50.67Mercyhealth is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
