Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a radiology technologist to perform advanced imaging procedures in a multi-modality department, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout exams.

The role supports radiologists and the healthcare team, prepares patients, administers contrast, and maintains equipment and supplies while mentoring students and staff.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • ARRT registered in Radiography; CT credential within two years of hire.
  • BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire.
  • Two to four years of radiography experience; hospital environment preferred.
  • Illinois IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois; Wisconsin WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for procedures, operate imaging equipment, and administer contrast.
  • Position patients to optimize imaging targets and ensure patient comfort.
  • Practice aseptic technique and manage intravenous access.
  • Initiate basic life support when necessary and provide patient education.
  • Maintain inventory and supplies, and mentor students and partners.
  • Observe universal protocol and patient identifiers; ensure patient safety across procedures.

Job description

OVERVIEWPerform advanced imaging procedures while providing safe, compassionate care and helping patients feel comfortable throughout their visit. This role works closely with radiologists and the healthcare team to prepare patients, operate imaging equipment, administer contrast when needed, and support quality patient care, education, and clinical leadership within the department.SCHEDULE: PRNSHIFT: Coverage needed for open hoursESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMaintains active status in the modalities in which they practice.Assists the department coordinator by providing clinical leadership, completes projects, advanced level clinical duties and regular assignments as requested.Is competent in all exams performed within the assigned modalities.Corroborates patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist.Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures.Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort; immobilizes patient as necessary.Practices aseptic technique as necessary,Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; starts and maintains intravenous access.Initiates basic life support action when necessary.Provides patient education.Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies for assigned area.Provides practical instruction for students and partners.Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.Other duties, tasks as assigned.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited radiography programTwo to four years of experience as a technologist as a Radiographer is required.
