Job summary

Mercyhealth is hiring a Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic radiographic procedures and ensure high-quality images. You will prepare and position patients, assist with vital signs, and support radiography students as needed.

The role emphasizes radiation safety, proper documentation in PACS, and collaboration with radiologists and providers across Mercyhealth's northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin network.

OVERVIEWPerforms diagnostic X-rays while preparing, positioning, and caring for patients to ensure safe, accurate imaging. Follows radiation safety standards, maintains imaging records, and may also assist with tasks such as taking vital signs, drawing blood, greeting patients, and supporting radiography students, depending on the clinic's needs.SCHEDULE: PRNSHIFT: VariableESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms diagnostic radiographic procedures.Depending on clinic assignment, may also perform patient reception, phlebotomy/specimen collection duties, rooming patients, and taking vital signs.Corroborates patients clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available to the radiologist and provider.Prepares and positions patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures.Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.Immobilizes patient as required for examination.Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures.Initiates basic life support when necessary.Determines radiographic technique and exposure factors.Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.Provides practical instruction for radiography students and other partners.Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.Utilities appropriate scripting, barriers, and patient identifiers.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited School of Radiologic TechnologyCERTIFICATION AND LICENSUREARRT Radiography registration requiredIEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in IllinoisWI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in WisconsinApproved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days of hireSKILLS AND ABILITIESLanguage SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
