Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a design engineer to own cryogenic and high-pressure fluid subsystems, from concept through hand-off to fabrication, across tankage, transfer lines, venting, and controls. You will own P&IDs, run flow/thermal models, and perform ASME calculations while coordinating with mechanical, electrical, and operations teams.

The role emphasizes field readiness, rigorous design reviews, and participation in safety analyses and system-level testing, with a focus on real-world problem

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or related engineering discipline.
• 2+ years in fluid or mechanical system design, analysis, or release.
• Experience producing P&IDs and releasing them.
• Proficiency in fluid network/thermal tools (AFT Fathom/Arrow, GFSSP, Sinda/Fluint, Thermal Desktop).
• Knowledge of fluid system components: valves, regulators, pumps, fittings, relief devices, filters.
• Willingness to conduct fieldwork: site walks, leak checks, testing.
• Strong written and verbal communication; capable of vendor technical discussions.

Responsibilities

• Design and release cryogenic and high-pressure fluid systems from concept to fabrication.
• Own P&IDs and manage revisions through ECNs.
• Build flow-network and thermal models to size lines and predict transients.
• Perform ASME B31.3/B31.12 calculations; document for continuity.
• Walk down installed hardware; support leak checks and tests.
• Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, controls, and operations interfaces.
• Participate in PHA/HAZOP and design reviews with data-driven input.
• Support planning and execution of system-level tests and data analysis.
