Job summary

CMHA-CEI in Lansing, MI is seeking a Mental Health Worker to provide support for consumers in acute mental health crisis. You will assist therapists and nurses, work with individuals with severe mental illness, and perform direct interventions per treatment plans.

The role requires crisis de-escalation skills, documentation, and reliable transportation. Employment offers contingent checks including background verification and pre-employment screens.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience working with consumers experiencing mental health crisis.
• Must be able to perform Handle with Care Behavior Management techniques according to approved Agency standards.
• Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license.
• Access to reliable means of transportation for job-related use required.
• Ability to communicate accurately and effectively in verbal and written form is required.
• Ability to process extensive documentation is required.
• Ability to problem-solve crisis situations, de-escalate behavioral health crisis and provide crisis intervention with consumers both individually and in group meetings required.

Responsibilities

• Provide a supportive atmosphere for consumers experiencing acute mental health crisis needing stabilization.
• Assist therapist and nurse; interact with consumers experiencing severe and persistent mental illness, substance use disorders and Developmental Disabilities in crisis, needing stabilization.
• Carry out a variety of supportive services and direct interventions with consumers in crisis per treatment plans.
• Maintain a secure environment.
• Perform activities of the program/sub-unit in alignment with CMHA-CEI's mission, policies and procedures.
