Job summary

Denton County Friends of the Family seeks a compassionate Shelter Services Specialist to support residents of the agency’s emergency shelter, providing crisis intervention and linkages to community resources.

You will conduct safety planning, coordinate transportation, assist with intake, supervise volunteers, and maintain shelter operations while reporting to the Director of Residential Services. This grant-funded role requires strong communication and a commitment to survivor support.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Office applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Must be at least 23 years old.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Preference: bilingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety planning and crisis intervention for residents.
  • Provide supportive services including transportation, childcare, and community resources.
  • Conduct shelter intakes for new residents.
  • Coordinate and provide transportation to shelter for eligible persons.
  • Dispatch Survivor Advocates to hospitals for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Provide callers with information on protective orders, crime victim’s compensation, and DCFOF services.
  • Coordinate with mobile crisis unit when necessary for crisis calls.
  • Maintain order and assist in shelter upkeep and supplies.
  • Collect and report data reflecting services and outcomes.
