This role supports individuals who may be homeless and may have mental illness or co-occurring substance use issues. You will handle intake, meals setup, rounds, referrals to detox or mental health services, door and telephone coverage, and routine documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.
• Ability to read and write simple correspondence.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills for serving low-income and homeless clients.
• Ability to remain calm and handle stress in a fast-paced shelter.

Responsibilities

• Read the staff log book from the previous shift.
• Set up tables for meals; break down and clean after meals.
• Follow shelter procedures with the 211 Coordinated Access Network.
• Process intake procedures for new clients.
• Pat down entrants for illegal items; search bags for contraband.
• Make necessary referrals to detox, mental health, or hospital services.
• Conduct continual rounds; monitor main hall, smoking areas, and bathrooms.
• Enforce designated outdoor smoking areas only.
• Log bedding returns and monitor client concerns.
• Document intakes, referrals, incidents, and logs hourly.
• Complete incident reports for unusual events (who, what, when, where).
