Job summary

Hartford HealthCare Rushford Center Meriden is seeking a Mental Health Counselor to provide direct care to clients in Respite and Crisis, and to respond to 24-hour hotline calls under supervision. This role supports the Crisis Stabilization Program’s mission and works with a multidisciplinary team across Connecticut.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, experience with age-specific populations, and a CT driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in related field, preferably Human Services.
• Previous experience working with age-specific patient population, in either a mental health or other related setting (e.g. social services, camp, and school) preferred.
• Previous experience working with emotionally disturbed patients strongly preferred.
• Valid CT driver's license in good standing. May require a public service license for some positions in order to transport patients.
• Basic keyboarding skills.

Responsibilities

• Answers hotline calls and assists callers in resolving crises, ensuring safety and addressing needs for treatment.
• Accompanies crisis clinicians on mobile calls.
• Identifies needs and provides direct client care and case management activities to assist in achieving established client outcomes.
• Observes clients in crisis and respite and communicates relevant information to crisis and outpatient clinicians.
• Implements behavior management plans as established for individual clients when plan is required.
• Assist with the training and orientation of other Mental Health Counselors and Crisis Assistants.
• Observes respite clients in self-administration of medications.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator, Program Manager, or Clinician.
