Job summary

CMHA-CEI in Lansing, Michigan is seeking a part-time crisis worker to provide a supportive atmosphere for families and children during acute mental health crises, under supervision of the Families Forward/Crisis Services Coordinator.

You will work with police and EMS, de-escalate crises, monitor activity, assist therapists, and maintain a secure environment while adhering to CMHA-CEI policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum six months’ experience with consumers in mental health crisis.
• Ability to de-escalate crisis situations individually and in groups.
• Working knowledge of clinical diagnoses for this population.
• Experience with children and adolescents with Severe Emotional Disturbance and their families.
• Ability to process information to identify problems and solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills including productivity and conflict resolution.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of extensive documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide a supportive atmosphere for families and children during acute mental health crisis in mobile crisis and office settings.
• Co-work with community emergency personnel including police officers and EMTs; co-respond to crisis situations.
• Monitor program activity.
• Assist therapists and interact with consumers in a short term crisis intervention program.
• Carry out activities of the program/sub-unit in line with CMHA-CEI’s mission, policies and procedures.
• Maintain a secure environment.
• Share information with therapists in the CMHA-CEI system.
