Becoming a Court Security Officer for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office means becoming involved with a team that provides safety and security for all occupants, employees, and visitors, working and visiting the Lake County Government Complex and the 19th Judicial Circuit facilities. This position may be rotated within different locations in the Lake County Court System including locations in Waukegan, Park City, Mundelein, Round Lake Beach, and Vernon Hills. Court Officers are members of the Teamster Local 700 Union.
You must be able to handle stressful situations, such as gang problems, fights, and multiple situations simultaneously. You will be required to walk and stand for an extended period of time without a significant rest period. You must be able to lift, pull, bend, and physically restrain a combative or injured inmate weighing 165lbs or more, and exert a minimum of 20 pounds of force on a regular basis. You may be responsible for transporting prisoners or providing bank escorts. Duties include maintaining positive working relationships with other employees, public officials, and the general public.
In order to be successful in this role you MUST either hold a current Police Officer Certification or Correctional Officer Certification and must possess a current Driver's License and a valid FOID card. You must have considerable knowledge of Courtroom procedures and operations, knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. You must be able to read and interpret reports, posters, policies, procedure manuals, releases, court orders, and ID cards. This individual must have excellent communication skills, written and oral. You must possess and exercise sound judgment in reacting to emergency situations and using physical force necessary to defend oneself and others. While performing the duties of this job, you will regularly be required to use a two-way radio, telephone, control panel for doors, and keys.
