Job summary

The State of Maine Judicial Branch is seeking certified law enforcement officers and qualified individuals to become Deputy Judicial Marshals. This full-time position provides security for judges, staff, and participants within the courthouse, with a strong emphasis on maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED and successful completion of the Maine CJ Academy Pre-Service Training; candidates may be sponsored for training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of Maine CJ Academy Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training; sponsorship possible if viable.
• Ability to interact effectively with judges, staff, attorneys, and the public in various situations.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Judicial Marshal for court security at each court day.
• Maintains alertness and responds to security risks during proceedings.
• Enforces Maine laws within the courthouse and may make arrests when necessary.
• Monitors surveillance and operates entry screening equipment.
• Directs people to building locations and assists with court paperwork and evidence movement.
• Patrols public areas and maintains presence as assigned.
• Ensures proper opening, recess, and closing of court sessions.
• Maintains mandatory annual training and firearms qualifications.
