Job summary

State of Maine Judicial Branch is seeking certified law enforcement officers to become Deputy Judicial Marshals at the Hancock County Courthouse in Ellsworth. The role focuses on securing courtrooms, serving as a security presence, and enforcing laws within the courthouse while maintaining work-life balance with a full-time schedule.

Starting pay is $25.72–$27.03 per hour, with Grade 12 steps and a cost-of-living stipend.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training program required.
• Applicants not yet completed may be sponsored on a case-by-case basis pending interview results.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Judicial Marshal for the court, ensuring security for court days and sessions.
• Maintains security posture during proceedings and responds to security risks.
• Enforces Maine laws within the courthouse; may make arrests and monitor surveillance; operate entry screening equipment.
• Observe entrants and movements within the courtroom and assist with paperwork flow between judges, clerks, defendants and other participants.
• Patrols court facilities and maintains presence in public areas as assigned.
• Announces opening, recess, and closing of court sessions; directs people to locations and provides schedules.
