Job summary

The University of Washington's Department of Sociology is seeking a Counseling Services Coordinator to support the launch and administration of the new Social Data Analytics MS program. You will advise students, develop capstone projects with community partners, and coordinate recruitment and admissions in a fee‑based graduate program.

You will work with the program director to ensure smooth operations, maintain advising data, and provide career development workshops and resources for students

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of advising, student counseling or teaching experience, or equivalent experience/education.
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize work, and manage heavy workloads with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to work effectively and patiently with diverse groups of students.
• Collaborative teammate with strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate effectively.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for professional workplace settings, including presentation and public speaking experience.

Responsibilities

• Act as Academic Counselor for the department's full‑time fee‑based Social Data Analytics Master of Science Program.
• Counsel and assist students experiencing academic difficulty or personal crises regarding options and resources.
• Assist with problem solving by assessing student needs, resolving academic concerns, evaluating and dealing with complex situations, developing individualized academic plans, facilitating conflict resolution, and monitoring student progress.
• Refer students as necessary to appropriate UW or community resources.
• Use data tools to analyze and assess student progress through the program.
• Interpret University and School policies and regulations to students, faculty, and staff.
