Job summary

NorthWestern Energy is seeking a corrosion control technician to inspect, monitor, and remediate corrosion across the gas system. You will perform cathodic assessments, bond installations, and data management while adhering to safety standards and procedures.

Travel up to 50% annually, with potential training outside typical locations. DOE-style certifications are encouraged, and you may work toward AMPP/NACE levels I–IV during employment.

Qualifications

  • Must maintain a good safety record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience or training in corrosion control preferred.
  • AMPP/NACE certification is a plus.
  • Must obtain AMPP CP1 within 12 months of hiring date.
  • Meet and maintain "Operator Qualification" standards.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing requirements.
  • Get Into Energy - Energy Industry Fundamental 2.0 certification is a plus [getintoenergy.org].

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of corrosion fundamentals.
  • Inspect, monitor and remediate atmospheric, external, and internal corrosion on NWE pipelines.
  • Perform cathodic assessment surveys: pipe-to-soil, atmospheric, CIS, ACVG, DCVG, coating conductance, Current Mapping, Soil Resistivity, and leak detection.
  • Familiar with ILI assessments and verification of anomalies in the field.
  • Understand and install/maintain cathodic bonds.
  • Familiar with cathodic electrical isolation, AC inspections and mitigation.
  • Build, inspect, install and maintain rectifiers and ground beds.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits is a plus.
  • Maintain cathodic, anode junction boxes, remote monitors, coupon test stations and pipeline test stations.
  • Identify efficiencies and process improvements for the group.
  • Data collection, retention, analysis, and maintenance in PCS database.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Travel up to 50% per year; training outside designated location and first 3 years may include extra travel.
  • Obtain AMPP/NACE level I–IV certifications as needed.
  • Attend to regular attendance per policy.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds and related physical activities in various weather conditions.
  • Adhere to safety standards and Code of Business Conduct & Ethics.
  • Contribute to NorthWestern Energy's values and strategic objectives.
