Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory security professional to oversee security personnel and inmate supervision within a unit. You will assist with evaluations, conduct inspections, and ensure safety and OSHA compliance.

Responsibilities include leading trainings, performing counts, documenting reports, and mediating misconduct to resolve issues at the lowest level. Must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 18 months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• SCDC certification and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Oversee security personnel and supervise inmates in the unit.
• Assist with employee evaluations and corrective actions.
• Make routine and unannounced inspections of the unit and security devices.
• Conduct trainings and briefings for security staff.
• Ensure safety standards and OSHA compliance for the unit.
• Investigate misconduct and mediate to resolve at the lowest level.
• Assist in counts and prepare written reports as required.
