Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, seeks an experienced supervisor to oversee correctional officers, conduct roll calls, and ensure safety and order inside facilities. Responsibilities include counts, investigations, and enforcing rules and procedures.

Candidates must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire and meet the minimum education and experience requirements. State employment with potential growth is offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and/or related experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Conducts roll call and monitors officers on duty; explains rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Assist in non-routine problems.
• Perform sanitation, safety, and security inspections of buildings, grounds, and vehicles; report deficiencies.
• Assigns duties to officers to ensure cleaning and proper supervision of inmates.
• Supervise and verify counts; conduct informal counts when needed.
• Assist in investigations and make recommendations to supervisor.
• Evaluate officers’ performance; counsel on required standards.
