Job summary

Dixon Correctional Institute under the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections seeks an experienced Corrections Captain to provide leadership and oversight in a secure facility. Lead security operations, staff coordination, and incident response, while ensuring policy compliance and safety across the institution.

The role emphasizes emergency planning, staff development, and collaboration with Programs, Classification, and Medical to maintain safe, orderly operations.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security.
• Experience at a level equivalent in scope to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.
• Must meet the necessary special requirements including PREA and age requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned correctional officers, sergeants, and lieutenants to ensure effective security operations.
• Oversee daily institutional security functions including housing units, perimeter security, inmate movement, and emergency readiness.
• Ensure compliance with departmental policies, post orders, security protocols, and applicable regulations.
• Conduct inspections of housing units, work sites, and posts to identify safety or compliance issues and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate staff scheduling, post assignments, and leave management to maintain adequate coverage.
• Assist with investigations and prepare reports and documentation.
