Job summary

Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) seeks a detail-focused leader to serve as Correctional Captain. You will provide direction for uniformed staff across custody levels, coordinate security operations, and act as Incident Commander during emergencies.

The role includes staff development, performance reviews, and collaboration with the Associate Superintendent. Qualified candidates will have at least six years in corrections with supervisory experience and a degree in criminology or related

Qualifications

Six years’ professional corrections/criminal justice experience with three years’ progressive supervisory responsibilities.
Experience applying correctional administration principles and rehabilitation, roster management and recordkeeping.
Knowledge of ICS, DOC Emergency Response Plan, policies, RCWs and CBAs.

Responsibilities

Direct the custody program at Close, Medium and Maximum-security facilities.
Plan and direct shift responsibilities ensuring security and safety.
Conduct critical incident investigations affecting facility safety or security.
Manage security operations including perimeter, weapons storage, access/egress, and inmate movement.
Oversee roster management and advise on staffing needs.
