Job summary

The State of Delaware Department of Correction seeks a Correctional Captain to manage total security operations of a secure facility, coordinating with other program areas to maintain an efficient and safe operation.

The role includes directing inmate supervision, shakedowns, transport custody, log and report writing, and potential riot control duties; candidates must meet required experience and licensure.

Qualifications

• Two years experience as Correctional Staff Lieutenant OR four years combined experience in the CO/series.
• Three years experience implementing and enforcing institutional rules and procedures.
• Six months experience in correctional management.
• Knowledge of evaluating inmate security levels for housing assignments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain inmate custody and escorting within the facility.
• Keep accurate head counts and conduct shakedowns for contraband.
• Operate locking systems and enforce rules and safety procedures.
• Observe inmate behavior and ensure care standards in living areas.
• Maintain daily logs and incident reports; prepare routine data entries.
• Potentially train/care for K-9 and participate in riot control or pursuit of escapees.
