Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in medium/maximum security units. You will maintain security of all buildings and public property and perform routine checks ensuring safety and OSHA compliance.

Responsibilities include assisting with inmate counts, investigating complaints and disputes, and upholding professional standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• SCDC basic training must be completed within eight weeks of hire.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs security staff and oversees custody and control of inmates in medium/maximum security unit(s).
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.

• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
