Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security personnel and custody of inmates.
• Assist with supervision, evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling.
• Conduct shift briefing with officers at start of shift.
• Keep subordinates informed of changes affecting inmates and operations.
• Perform random checks to ensure duty performance within standards.
• Inspect work areas and security devices to ensure proper operation.
• Assist in conducting counts.
• Investigate complaints.
• Perform duties of Housing Lieutenant in absence.
• Maintain OSHA and safety standards.
