Job summary

The GEO Group in Newark, NJ seeks a Physician contractor (1099) to lead primary care for detainees, diagnose a broad range of illnesses, and coordinate care with specialists. This on-site role requires medical licensure, U.S.-based residency, and DEA registration.

You will manage medical program activities, maintain confidential health records, provide 24-hour on-call coverage, and collaborate with hospital teams, nurses, and administrative staff.

Qualifications

• Medical degree from an accredited school and licensed to practice in the state.
• Two years of direct physician experience.
• Completion of a U.S.-based residency program.
• Current DEA registration and active professional license.

Responsibilities

• Examine and treat detainees for injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis and recovery per clinical guidelines.
• Provide medical treatment and order studies/tests as needed.
• Prescribe medications and review ongoing care, including vaccines.
• Discuss side effects and verify allergy information before prescribing.
• Advise patients on lifestyle changes to improve health.
• Maintain health records and use Electronic Health Records system.
• Maintain patient confidentiality per privacy laws.
• Collaborate with hospital teams, nurses and admins.
• Pursue CME and professional development.
• Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for detainee care.
• Participate in mortality and peer reviews.
