Job summary

The State of North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is seeking a Correctional Lieutenant II (S) for Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution. You will supervise a shift, coordinate disciplinary and security tasks, and assist with officer scheduling under the supervision of a Captain II.

The role requires leadership for custody staff, ensures housing unit inspections and orderly operations, and adherence to safety rules, with benefits including health insurance and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and at least two years six months of experience as a Correctional Sergeant, or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant II.
• Must meet Criminal Justice Standards and pass background checks and related certification requirements.
• Internal posting open only for current NC DAC employees or eligible state government RIF candidates.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first-line supervisor of Correctional Sergeant II's.
• Serve as Officer-in-Charge in absence of the Correctional Captain.
• Assist with personal actions, administrative affairs, and officers' work schedule.
• Coordinate activities involving discipline, security, and the welfare of the offender population.
• Conduct inspections of housing units and other buildings, grounds, and posts to ensure discipline and proper assignments.
