Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County, seeks a Correctional Lieutenant I (S) to oversee staffing, conduct inspections, and manage daily operations in a medium/minimum custody facility housing 1,000+ inmates. The role involves time reporting, training coordination, and ensuring post readiness.

Qualifications

• High school or GED diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility.
• Knowledge of prison policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of facility operations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate staff, conduct shift line-ups, assign shifts, and inspect personnel for readiness.
• Inspect housing units, buildings, grounds, and posts to ensure discipline and alertness.
• Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, and evaluations.
• Account for persons and funds, ensure equipment is operational, and coordinate training for staff.
• Develop operational plans, post orders, and Standard Operating Procedures.
