Job description

This position is assigned to Pasquotank Correctional Institution, a large male close and minimum custody correctional facility. Position will be assigned to a housing unit in the custody area. Effective verbal/written communication with other staff, inmates, and the general public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent/verbally abusive. Conduct continuous visual/audio surveillance of assigned work area. Accurately operate office machines/prepare written reports/forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various sources. Demonstrate/instruct inmates in the proper safe use of tools, equipment/supplies. Review, analyze/evaluate various documents and behavioral data gathered from interview/documentation/ personal observation. Perform crisis intervention/routine counseling to include suicide prevention. Account for supplies/equipment. Implement /manage correctional programs.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits .

Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC07. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAYresult.

“As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. Associate s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
